Shirts
Projects using existing and modified patterns, focused on high quality construction while exploring different styles of button ups and playing with fabric color and patterns.
Short Sleeve Camp Shirt
In this project I learned a lot about construction, sewing a convertible collar, side vents, shirt-felled sleeves, and a pattern matched pocket all for the first time.
Shawl Collar Blouse
Through sewing this blouse I further explored different shirt construction details through creating a shawl collar and making continuous cuff plackets. I also practiced finishing techniques in the interior, using overlocking and bias covered seam finishes. Finally, this was a fun experiment in working with print and color blocking.
Dress Shirt
For this project, I am adjusting an existing pattern to both improve fit and play with a different design. I used illustrator to play around with design ideas and also sewed samples of the collar and cuff to practice construction techniques and test out color blocking concepts.
Skirts
An exploration of different styles of skirts, made to learn about creating closures, waistbands, lining, and pockets.
Gore Skirt
An 8-gore bias cut skirt made from a bamboo cotton blend, great for spinning on a summer day. I draped the waistband for this skirt and drafted the rest of the pattern based on the waistband. This skirt has a button closure up the front and extra deep pockets that fit a small book or a large phone (or one of each).
Wool Skirt
This skirt is made with a twill wool that I dyed a slate green color. It has a single lapped zipper closer with a hook and bar, a yoke and paneling, on-seam pockets, a vent at the bottom of center back, and it is fully lined.
Mini Skirt
A two toned chambray blue chambray skirt with a salmon pink lining. This skirt has no waistband, but instead has facing along the waist and an invisible zipper closure. It has tucks in the front and darts on the back to create shaping. One way I would improve this skirt is to use a slightly heavier weight or stiffer fabric to preserve the roll along the waist and the structure of the tucks.
